The History:
This vintage 14k gold charm is modeled after a traditional broadcast microphone, featuring a textured rectangular microphone head suspended within a supporting frame. The microphone is articulated, allowing it to pivot on its side-mounted hinges, while a slender stand extends beneath the frame. Fine detailing on the front and reverse recreates the grille and structural elements of early microphone designs.
During the twentieth century, microphones became closely associated with the growing popularity of radio broadcasting, recorded music, and live performance. Miniature charms depicting musical instruments and entertainment-related objects were popular additions to charm bracelets, often collected to commemorate personal interests, professions, or special occasions. This unusual example combines recognizable period-inspired design with a functional moving element.
