The History:
This Victorian bangle is crafted from dark vulcanite and features a series of rectangular panels separated by recessed vertical grooves. Each panel is decorated with a 14k gold geometric accents centered with small seed pearls, creating a repeating pattern across the front of the bracelet.
Vulcanite, a hardened rubber developed during the nineteenth century, became a popular material in Victorian jewelry due to its lightweight construction, durability, and ability to be molded into decorative forms. Its dark appearance made it particularly suitable for mourning jewelry, although it was also used in everyday adornment. This example combines the smooth, dark surface of vulcanite with delicate metalwork and pearl accents, reflecting the Victorian interest in contrasting materials and geometric ornamentation.
This bracelet measures 7" in inner circumference, 3" in width and 2" in height when closed. The bracelet measures .25" in thickness.
