Victorian Shibayama Insect Locket
The History:
- A striking example of Shibayama work from the late 1800s, this gold filled locket hand carved mother of pearl and black onyx insects inlaid in the front facing with delicate engraved anatomical accents. This Japanese style of jewelry was extremely popular during the Victorian era. The locket opens to reveal an inner compartment available for storing a lock of hair or small portrait.
This piece was originally made and sourced in England and measures 1" from the bottom of the locket to the top of the bail. Please note this locket shows light wear consistent with age.
This locket pairs nicely with any necklace in our Classics Collection or with a chain of your own on one of our Swivel Clasps.
