"Love be our Idol" Crystal Bottle Pendant

This one-of-a-kind necklace is composed of:

• Victorian, crystal holy water or perfume bottle. It is engraved on the back with the saying "Love be our Idol, Constancy (or Courtesy) our God". The front has a green glass stone set in a gold filled setting.

• This necklace measures a standard 30” on a modern 14k gold filled chain with the bottle measuring 2” in length and 1.25" in circumference. 

THE STORY:

We're not certain of the origins of this little bottle, but we love the intentional sentiment someone invested in the hand-engraved inscription. Little bottles like this were known to hold holy water as a token of remembrance from religious pilgrimages, or expensive perfume. With over 200 years of age behind this little treasure, the inscription is worn, making the 5th word hard to decipher--we asked our followers on Instagram to help us solve the mystery and "constancy" and "courtesy" were two of the top contenders that made the most sense in the context of the phrase and marks in the worn script.
