Richie Victorian Engraved Round Locket

The History:

This gold filled Victorian round locket features an intricately engraved exterior with fine radiating lines, scrolling foliate borders, and decorative architectural motifs on one side. The reverse is ornamented with an engraved shield-shaped cartouche surrounded by floral scrollwork, offering a space for personal engraving. The hinged case opens to reveal two circular compartments, with the original glass and frames  originally intended to hold photographs or other small keepsakes, while a substantial ring bail completes the design.

Lockets were particularly popular during the Victorian era, when sentimental jewelry served as a means of preserving personal connections and family memories. Elaborate hand engraving, engine-turned textures, and decorative cartouches were characteristic of nineteenth-century metalwork, combining ornamental craftsmanship with the personal significance of these miniature keepsake cases.

This piece measures 2 ¼" in height, from the bottom of the piece to the top of the bail.
