The History:

This Victorian solid gold and sterling insect pendant from the late 1800s was converted from a brooch. This intricately detailed insect features a pearl abdomen, old mine cut diamond-set wings and head, with small ruby eyes. The central old-cut diamond is framed within a star-shaped setting on the head, while additional diamonds decorate the outstretched wings and delicate antennae. The body is mounted diagonally across a slender 14k gold pin, finished with a small pearl and antique 14k gold ring at the opposite end.

In Victorian jewelry, insects were popular decorative subjects, reflecting the nineteenth century's fascination with the natural world and its symbolism. Bees were particularly associated with industriousness, cooperation, and loyalty, appearing in jewelry, decorative arts, and personal emblems throughout the period. The combination of diamonds, rubies, and pearls reflects the elaborate craftsmanship and naturalistic ornamentation characteristic of Victorian fine jewelry.

This pendant measures 2 ¼" from the bottom of the pendant to the top of the bail and measures 1" at the widest.

This piece was originally made and sourced in England.

We recommend pairing this pendant with our Classic Gold Rolo Chain, Classic Silver Rolo Chain, Classic Slim Gold Omega Necklace, or Classic Small Gold Omega Necklace.
