The History:

This Victorian sterling silver Albert chain features a traditional trombone link design, characterized by elongated rectangular links joined by smaller circular connecting rings. The chain incorporates a triangular arrangement of links near the T-bar, adding a geometric detail to its otherwise linear construction. A swivel clasp at one end and a T-bar fitting at the other reflect its original function as a pocket watch chain.

Trombone links were an established style of watch chain during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, offering an alternative to the closely interlocking links of traditional curb chains. These chains were designed to be worn with a waistcoat, with the T-bar secured through a buttonhole and the swivel clasp attached to a pocket watch. This example retains its traditional fittings and open-link construction, making it equally suitable for contemporary wear as a necklace.

This necklace measures 16.5" in length and was originally made and sourced in England.
