Lover's Swallow Pendants

Sale price$245.00

The Story:

  • Art Deco, sterling silver dress pin in the design of a swallow from the late 1920s. This dress pin has crystal rhinestone details set throughout the design along with garnet eye and hand engraved feather details.

This piece was originally made and sourced in England and measures 1" from the bottom of the charm to the top of the bail. Please note this piece shows light wear consistent with age.

THE HISTORY:

Birds were a popular and common motif in jewelry in Victorian and early 1800s jewelry. Swallows and doves in particular adorned all kinds of pieces. Swallows mate for life and always go back to their nest, so it made sense for them to be on jewelry that lovers would give to each other. The birds were a popular symbol for sailors as well: spotting a them in the sky was the first sign their ship was close to land where they would return to their loved ones.

This pendant is photographed with our Small Sterling Silver Charm Chain but pairs nicely with any necklace in our Classics Collection or with a chain of your own on one of our Swivel Clasps
