The History:

This antique silver Albert chain features substantial curb links with a traditional T-bar fitting and swivel clasp. The closely interlocking links create a continuous, flexible chain, while the polished surfaces and rounded edges highlight the substantial construction.

Originally designed to secure a gentleman's pocket watch, Albert chains became a popular accessory during the Victorian era, typically worn across a waistcoat with the T-bar passed through a buttonhole and the swivel clasp attached to the watch. Named after Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, these chains were both functional accessories and decorative elements of nineteenth-century men's dress. As pocket watches fell out of everyday use, antique Albert chains were increasingly repurposed as necklaces and bracelets, often worn with pendants, lockets, and charms. This example retains its traditional watch chain fittings and substantial curb link design, reflecting the practical construction and enduring appeal of antique Albert chains.

This necklace measures 15.25" in length and was originally made and sourced in England.
