The History:
This Victorian gold filled watch fob features a deep green bloodstone seal set within an ornate gold-filled mount. This piece features an unusually shaped, scalloped bloodstone base accompanied by an intricately decorated mount of scrolling foliage and floral motifs. Its sculptural silhouette and richly detailed metalwork reflect the Victorian appreciation for ornament and craftsmanship.
Bloodstone, a variety of chalcedony distinguished by its dark green color and occasional flecks of red, was a favored material for nineteenth-century signets and seals. Historically associated with courage, strength, and protection, the stone was often engraved with family crests or personal initials and used to seal correspondence in wax.
This piece was originally made and sourced in England and shows wear consistent with age and measures 1" from bottom to top of the pendant. Seal measures approximately .5" by .5".
