Old Cut Diamond Serpent Ring

Sale price$4,985.00

THE STORY:

This Victorian solid gold serpent ring is one of the best Victorian pieces we've ever found of it's kind: with three old mine cut diamonds tapering down the head and two small rose cut diamond eyes, the serpent features a slightly parted mouth that reveals a forked gold tongue. Crafted in solid 18k gold, this triple coiled piece from the 1800s is in excellent condition for its age and design. This piece was assayed in Birmingham and hallmarked in 1877.

THE SPECS:
Metal: 18k gold
Ring Size: 6

This piece was originally made and sourced in England.

THE HISTORY:
Queen Victoria brought snake jewelry into the fashion spotlight in the 1800s when her husband-to-be, Prince Albert, bought her a snake engagement ring, set with an emerald (her birthstone). The Victorians associated the snake motif with eternal love. As one of the first Queens to be regularly seen out and about, Victoria’s style was emulated throughout the world and was quickly emulated in brooches, necklaces, and other jewelry designs not only in her time, but for years to come.
