The History:

These Georgian-era micromosaic button conversions feature three individual animal designs: a rabbit, a seated dog, and a lamb. Each miniature portrait is composed of tiny pieces of colored glass, known as tesserae, carefully arranged against a contrasting black ground. Each pendant is enclosed in an 18k gold bezel setting with an accompanying 18k bail.

Made in Italy, micromosaic jewelry became particularly fashionable during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, when travelers on the Grand Tour collected these intricate works as souvenirs. Italian artisans developed exceptional skill in the technique, creating remarkably detailed compositions on a miniature scale. Animal subjects were among the many decorative motifs produced for the European jewelry market.

Each pendant is sold individually, not as a set. Please select your preferred animal from the available options.

These pieces were originally made in Italy and sourced in England. They show wear consistent with age.

Each pendant measures 0.75" in length including the bails and 0.5" in width.

We recommend pairing this pendant with our Classic Gold Rolo Chain, Classic Silver Rolo Chain, Classic Slim Gold Omega Necklace, or Classic Small Gold Omega Necklace.
