Georgian Diamond, Ruby & Pearl Butterfly Clip

Sale price$2,950.00

The History:

This Georgian-era butterfly clip features four diamond-set wings arranged around a finely detailed 14k gold body, ruby cabochon eyes, and a small pearl at the bottom of the thorax. The wings are constructed of sterling silver with 14k gold backing, with individual antique rose cut diamonds arranged along the segmented outlines to create texture and definition. The contrast between the silver and gold is characteristic of antique diamond jewelry, when silver was frequently used for stone settings and gold for structural elements.

Butterflies appeared in jewelry throughout the Georgian period and became increasingly popular in the nineteenth century, admired for their delicate forms and associations with transformation. The reverse features a curved double-pronged clip mechanism, allowing the piece to be fastened to fabric, worn as an ornamental accessory, or clipped into a chain to to be worn in a modern way.

This piece was originally made and sourced in England and shows wear consistent with age. This piece measures just over 0.5" in length and 0.75" wide at the widest point.

We recommend pairing this pendant with our Classic Gold Rolo Chain, Classic Silver Rolo Chain, Classic Slim Gold Omega Necklace, or Classic Small Gold Omega Necklace.
