Aurelia Peace Dove Intaglio Seal Fob

The History:

This beautiful Victorian seal fob features a warm, honey-colored glass geometric intaglio suspended from an intricately detailed gold filled mount. Hidden beneath its polished exterior is a delicately etched peace dove with an olive branch and the word "PEACE" emblazoned above it. Intaglios were originally intended to leave a personal impression in warm sealing wax. The rich golden translucency of the stone contrasts beautifully with its recessed engraving, while the finely decorated mount lends an elegant finishing touch.

During the nineteenth century, seals were both practical instruments and deeply personal possessions, used to authenticate correspondence and lend a distinctive flourish to handwritten letters. Often engraved with initials, family crests, or symbolic imagery, these miniature works of art reflected the identity and sentiments of their owners. This piece is a wonderful example of Victorian craftsmanship and the romantic tradition of personal correspondence.
