The History:

This petite hand-carved coral pendant from the late 1800s was once a small charm or fob adornment that depicts a seated sighthound - likely a greyhound or whippet. Mediterranean red coral was one of the most prized materials of the Victorian period, associated with protection, vitality, and good fortune. Carved coral animal figures were particularly fashionable from the 1850s-1880s.

This piece was originally made and sourced in England and measures 1.25" from the bottom of the bail to the top of the charm. The added bail in this charm is solid 14k gold. Please note this piece shows light wear consistent with age.
