  • Victorian, watch fob charm, chain, and clasp from the late 1800s. The intaglio seal pendant features a hand-etched agate stone with imagery of a dove carrying an olive branch in its beak.

  • This necklace measures a standard 18” on an antique gold filled chain, clasp and pedant. The pendant measures 1" in height.

THE HISTORY:

On of the most well-known mentions of doves--and the origin of a dove carrying an olive branch--comes from the Bible. Doves are mentioned many times in the scriptures, from the baptism of Jesus to after the flood, when Noah sent out a dove and it returned with an olive branch (a long awaited symbol that dry land was nearby). The dove has come to represent peace with God, innocence, and purity.
