This one-of-a-kind necklace is composed of:

  • Victorian men's watch fob chain from the late 1800s in the design of a snake. This chain piece features a head and tail cap details with a slinky scaled graduated chain in the center.

  • This necklace measures a standard 16” on a modern 14k gold filled chain. The snake pendant measures 5".

THE HISTORY:

Queen Victoria brought snake jewelry into the fashion spotlight in the 1800s when her husband-to-be, Prince Albert, bought her a snake engagement ring, set with an emerald (her birthstone). The Victorians associated the snake motif with eternal love. As one of the first Queens to be regularly seen out and about, Victoria’s style was emulated throughout the world and was quickly emulated in brooches, necklaces, and other jewelry designs not only in her time, but for years to come.
