THE HISTORY:
This modified, sterling silver snuff box from the early 1800s features hand-engraved scrollwork details. Originally made and sourced in England, this little sterling box would have originally been made to hold snuff and tuck away in a pocket.
This charm measures 1.5” in width and 2" in height and has been modified with a sterling silver swivel clasp at the top to add to any large link or slide on a delicate chain.
THE OF SNUFF BOXES:
Small, pocket-sized silver boxes were often used for holding snuff--a mixture of ground tobacco and scented oils--and were very popular in the 18th century when snuff-taking was fashionable for both men and women.
