THE TALENTED WOMEN
chef LOKELANI ALABANZA
From Oregon to Vermont to Japan, chef Lokelani Alabanza’s passion for making all things sweet took her half-way around the world before landing her in Tennessee, in her current role as culinary director and operating partner of Hattie Jane’s Creamery, a small-batch ice cream shop based in Nashville.
Raised in Oregon, Alabanza landed her first kitchen job at Sven’s Hus #13 in Denmark. After returning to the States she’s since been a pastry cook at Neall Fraser of LA’s Grace Restaurant, the executive pastry chef at Beso Hollywood, a personal chef in Japan, worked at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon at The Venetian hotel, and even launched a hand pie company, Sugared.
Alabanza moved to Nashville in 2015 to join Hattie Jane’s, where she creates uniquely Southern ice cream flavors using seasonal and local ingredients. And if you ask us, she’s even sweeter than her delectable creations.
ALI of MAISON ÉTOILE
Coming from Pacific Northwest roots, Ali found her way to Nashville five years ago. Loving the small town feel in a city, she’s been lucky enough live and experience and handful of Nashville’s brightest neighborhoods. Ali has always had her hand in design in some way, and has her latest 1930’s bungalow home to thank for her current sashay into the interiors world. When she's not designing, or sourcing furniture, Ali can be found in her backyard garden, on a good hike or surrounded by fabric at her sewing machine. Maison Étoile is a healthy mix of traditional, mid-century modern and new bohemian. Never one to say no to color or a good antique, Ali effortlessly mixes the old with new, giving your home personality and room to tell its own story.
